Advanced Energy Management and Decarbonization: BCIT Facilities

BCIT Facilities manages an extensive portfolio of nearly 80 buildings, each equipped with advanced building systems and control mechanisms. In a forward-thinking collaboration, BCIT and SISA Energy harnessed over 1 billion historical and real-time data points from the campus control systems. This partnership enabled the virtual submetering of every piece of equipment, providing detailed insights into hourly, daily, and monthly energy consumption at the equipment, building, and portfolio levels. An energy and decarbonization dashboard was developed for BCIT, featuring a comprehensive inventory of equipment specifications. Additionally, scattered documents were processed to create a unified data source. Leveraging this granular data, BCIT and SISA Energy optimized decarbonization initiatives, ensuring upgrades were both cost-effective and mindful of electrical capacity constraints.

Collaborative Level 2 Energy Assessments and Decarbonization Analysis

SISA Energy empowers consultants to deliver energy assessments faster and more cost-effectively by leveraging its advanced data collection and decarbonization platforms. SISA’s platform not only facilitates comprehensive data gathering but also seamlessly integrates data from various sources. The decarbonization platform performs detailed energy conservation measure (ECM) analysis using consultant-provided data. Examples of this collaboration include the Shepard Operational Work Centre for RJC Engineers and Bridgeland Manor for MCW. Through these assessments, SISA Energy identified and recommended actionable strategies to enhance energy efficiency and promote decarbonization in these facilities.

Streamlined Data Acquisition and High-level Screening: Market Rental Buildings for Landlord BC

Market rental apartment buildings present a significant opportunity for energy efficiency and decarbonization (EE&D) retrofits, crucial for enhancing the sustainability of the housing stock. However, a major challenge is the scarcity of data on these buildings and their systems, along with the need for a swift and efficient screening method for EE&D opportunities. This project developed and tested such a methodology, resulting in an initial dataset of building characteristics and EE&D potential by utilizing various data sources. In collaboration with Landlord BC, BC Hydro, FRESCO Building Efficiency, and SISA Energy, a streamlined approach to data acquisition was implemented for 50-100 buildings. This included forming a live dataset of building information for stakeholders which enabled comprehensive portfolio analysis, identifying needed support, and optimizing efforts at the portfolio level. The project also conducted screening audits and provided clients with actionable insights to advance toward net-zero emissions.
